Travel back in time to the 1940s and 60s with our vintage inspired styles. Bring a simple yet retro feel to your dining space through adding some of our pieces. Below, we will explain the origin of midcentury modern tables and highlight pieces from our MCM collection.
Origin of Midcentury Modern Dining Tables and Overall Style
The MCM movement started post WWII and had great influence on both architecture and furniture styles of the time. In fact, designers made Mid Century Modern furniture specifically for houses of the same style. Furniture was typically lower to match the lowered ceilings and open spaces of the houses.
Even now, MCM is a popular decor theme, which cements it as a timeless style. Walnut and oak wood were common natural materials for furniture pieces from this time period. All our items are available in both species.
Clean lines, organic curves, and functionality define this movement. Geometric shapes are common and ornate details are rare. Furniture is generally more space efficient, lighter, and modern or even futuristic. Neutral, natural colors characterize Mid Century Modern furniture with bold colors as accent pieces.
Mid Century Modern Dining Tables at Upstate Amish
We offer three styles of dining tables in the Mid Century Modern Style. One is round and the other two are rectangular, yet each feature clean, neat lines and tapered legs. Each table is available in any wood species and stain we offer. You can also adjust dimensions and choose between a solid and extendable top for most of our tables.
The Monroe Mid Century Modern Solid Wood Dining Table is a popular choice. This style features legs at perfect right angles while the two inward facing sides taper to the floor. This geometric precision is also evident in the tabletop that displays hard, exact lines.
The Shaker Mid Century Dining Table is similar to the Monroe style. However, the legs taper from all sides and the table top extends past the legs, unlike the Monroe. This table design combines the classic Amish Shaker style with Mid Century style for a modern yet classic result.
Our final option is the Round MCM Dining Table. This style features four legs that join in the center to form a pedestal base. Each leg branches off at a rounded, obtuse angle from the base of the table. This contrasts well with the perfectly circular solid top for a modern dining table.
Round Mid Century Modern Walnut Dining Table and Cordelle Chairs

Natural walnut specifically is a great choice for a Mid Century dining set. Not only was it commonly used during that era, but the design of the furniture is suited to more eye catching wood species. The simple styles of MCM furniture draw focus to the diverse wood pattern and coffee, chocolate hues of walnut wood.
Chairs to Match Your Mid Century Dining Table
To match our MCM dining tables, we three styles of chairs - the Windsor, Cordelle, and Laker. Each is highly unique and pairs well with any of the earlier mentioned tables. Make your family dinners more stylish with any combination of our Mid Century tables and chairs.
An excellent choice for any Mid Century Modern themed dining room is the Laker style. This chair features a gentle, organic curve in the back legs as well as the chair back. The front legs taper slightly and the chair top is especially clean and neat, not unlike the Monroe table in design.
The Windsor chair is another great choice to compliment our Mid Century Modern dining tables. Like the Laker chair, the back legs gently curve and the front legs taper, but the similarities stop there. The chair back of the Windsor is almost oval like with rounded, soft edges and the seat features a deep scoop design.
Our final and most unusual MCM chair style is the Cordelle. This chair features a rare contrast of types of lines. The back chair legs slope diagonally in a hard, straight line to meet the armrest. From there, the chair back dramatically curves around the sitter and the front legs do not taper.
Each chair style is available with a fabric seat for added contrast against the wood color and grain. Partially upholstered chairs make great accents for the heads of the table or add comfort to all seats. Mix and match these chairs with our MCM dining tables to find what suits your taste most perfectly.
Aside from our MCM dining chairs, we also offer a Monroe Mid Century Modern Dining Bench. This style perfectly matches details from the Monroe table. This includes the right angled yet tapered legs and the way the tabletop does not extend past the legs for a clean, geometric look.
Benches are a great option for dining area seating. They offer an unusual, more diverse seating arrangement with open access from both sides. Since our dining benches are backless, they allow for more visibility in the style of the table and other chairs.
