Are the Mission Dining Tables Actually Amish Made?
Yes! All our furniture is built from scratch in Ohio by Amish furniture makers. Choosing an Amish mission dining table allows you to customize as needed. Our mission dining table collection is extendable with leaves. Most tables 12 inches longer than the width of the table will be able to self-store leaves. The tabletop splits in the center and extends easily with gear driven slides.
The finish on the Amish mission dining sets is a catalyzed conversion varnish. This finish is waterproof, heat resistant to 220 degrees, and UV resistant. We do not recommend polishes or wood conditioners with our finish. Simply clean it regularly using a mild soap and water to keep the furniture free of dust buildup.
Traditional Mission Dining Room Furniture Details
Traditional mission style dining room tables often feature several distinctive details. The furniture has a heavy, solid feel. Trestles and pedestals have sturdy, square posts with mortise and tenon joinery. Many feature wide straight slats that add to the craftsman style design.
Mission dining chairs may vary in exact design but incorporate some of the same details. Many feature wide wooden slats in the backs of the chairs. Mission dining benches often have a straight, square base or matching base to the dining table.
Favorite mission chairs include the Kowan, Austin and Urbana style wooden chairs. Add softness and style with upholstered dining chairs like the Emerson and Parson dining chairs. All chairs are available as matching bar chairs at your countertop or kitchen island.
Sideboards and China cabinets for Mission dining room furniture are a great way to add storage in your home. Mission cabinets often feature flat, inset drawer fronts and square panels in cabinet doors. Round tables are available with fixed tabletops or with a leaf to extend the top into an oval shape. Leaves for round tables are folding and hinged to store inside the tabletop.

What is Quarter Sawn Mission Dining Furniture?
Quarter Sawn White Oak wood refers to the angle of the cut at the lumber mill. Rather than being flat sawn, like Red Oak usually is, White Oak wood is sometimes quarter sawn. This cut creates a side view of the wood grain, creating the classic mission look. The medullary rays in the wood create stunning grain texture when quarter sawn.
The process of quarter cutting the wood increases waste at the mill, creating a higher price tag than flat sawn wood. Save money on your quarter sawn White Oak dining set by choosing rustic grade wood rather than select grade. Rustic grade is the same quarter sawn White Oak wood, including some boards that have small, filled knot holes.
