At Upstate Amish Furniture Gallery, we offer a quality selection of office furniture. This includes desks, office chairs, bookcases, file cabinets, and conference tables. This blog will focus on the benefits of our Amish custom desks as well as highlight some of our office chair styles.
Our Handcrafted Home Office Desks are Heirloom Quality
Our skilled Amish partners carefully craft each piece with high quality solid wood. Their attention to detail and dedication is unmatched. This combination of expertise and premium material creates furniture that lasts for generations.
In contrast, mass produced furniture is generally poorer quality. Most retailers use low quality material and generic, impersonal designs. Pieces need replacement more often, leading to higher costs over time. Each of our desks is unique and completely customizable.
Our solid hardwood furniture has no veneers or laminates. This means as it ages and collects scratches, you can sand and refinish the piece for a brand new look. However, our furniture does not scratch easily because we use a highly durable catalyzed conversion varnish.
This varnish helps your computer desk resist scratches, stains, water rings, and heat. It requires little maintenance and no polish. Oil and water based varnishes do not compare to this high quality, long lasting alternative.
Although custom solid wood desks may be expensive, they are highly durable, incredibly long lasting, and have timeless style. This investment in your office space will serve you for years until you pass it down to the next owner.
Choose the Wood Species and Stain for Your Custom Wood Desk Top
Whether you choose to purchase one of our designs or your own custom desk, we offer a wide variety of wood species and stains. All our furniture at Upstate Amish has this level of customization.
Wood species we offer include: cherry, maple, red oak, rustic white oak, quarter sawn white oak, hickory, birch, elm, and walnut. For each species, stains ranging from honey cider and blissful sand to brown velvet and ebony are available.
Like kitchen and dining tables, desks have large surface areas that display wood patterns better than other pieces. For this reason, it is important to research what kind of wood pattern you prefer. Some people like straight and uniform grain, while others enjoy highly figured, textured patterns.
Each desk has a unique wood grain pattern, often with distinctive curls, swirls, or flecks. For example, our Brooklyn style desk is a large L shaped desk shown below in walnut. The mix of heart and sap wood creates a dramatic, dimensional element in this extra large desk.
The slight red and purple hues unique to walnut are evident. The mostly uniform wood grain contrasts with burls and gorgeous cathedral patterns. Added to the elegant curves of the Brooklyn style, this makes your corner computer desk beautifully unique.

Flamed birch with an asbury brown stain is another excellent choice. Shown below in a variation of the Brooklyn style, it features a highly figured wood grain pattern. These dramatic curls and stripes that resemble flames are natural and rather rare.

Custom Wooden Desks Built for Your Office Space
We can work with you to design a custom, built-in desk entirely unique to your space. Our furniture is completely customizable, meaning you can adjust the dimensions of existing styles as well.
For example, you love the turned legs and beveled drawer fronts of the Ashton Writing Desk. However, you would prefer if it had the length of another drawer. We can easily adjust the dimensions of the desk before sending the order to our Amish partners. Then, they will handcraft your customized desk and deliver it to your home or office.
You can also customize details like drawer handles, if the piece has a beveled edge profile, or the surface area of the table top. This level of customization is impossible to find among our competitors who mass produce furniture.
An example of an entirely custom piece is an adjustable height corner standing desk. None of our current styles come like this, but we can certainly make one. This way, you can sit or stand while working at your desk with ease.
Another example of a custom desk is a built-in, wall to wall piece. Orders like this might have longer lead times because of the size and planning required. However, the result is an heirloom quality piece that increases the value of any home or office space.
Leather Office Chairs for Our Custom Wooden Desks
Just like our desks, these office chairs are the product of expert craftsmanship and high quality materials. Our selection of leather, executive chairs all feature a five-spoke base on wheels with a height adjustment mechanism. Each style is sophisticated and professional, making it suitable for any office space.
Our DC55 Leather Office Chair is a classic option for any executive. It features a high arched top board and padded arms. Available in your choice of wood with black, grey, or brown leather, this chair is comfortable and built to last.
Another excellent choice is the CET59 Clark Executive Office Chair. This style features a tall back with tufted leather. This means buttons secure the leather to form turfs that make diamond patterns on the chair back.

The CE58 Leather Office Chair also features a high back with padded arms. The leather back forms three columns with a slightly raised headrest for added comfort. Working long hours is easier in a comfortable, functional chair.
Aside from these full leather back styles, we also offer office chairs with an upholstered fabric seat cushion and wood back. These options are much less expensive than the previous, although not quite as comfortable.
The Oregon Office Chair with a Fabric Seat features a steamed and bent back for comfort and three even slats in the Mission style. Added chair arms are optional for this and other similar styles.
Custom Wood Desks in Seneca, SC
Out of the furniture stores in South Carolina, few match our level of quality, craftsmanship, customization, and customer service.
Come visit our store in person to view some of our desk styles as well as matching chairs and other office furniture. We typically have multiple desks in varying wood species and stains in stock. However, we have a wide selection of all kinds of furniture in the store.
Seeing a chest of drawers in maple wood with burnished edges and an asbury brown stain might give you ideas for desk colors. In our Seneca store, we have samples of each wood species in each kind of stain. Seeing these is helpful in determining what exactly looks best in your space.
Basically, comparing different wood species, stains, and styles in person is important in the purchasing process. Even seeing how certain wood grain patterns appear across large surfaces can impact your decision.
