Murphy Cabinet Bed Style Options
We offer two primary styles of space saving Murphy beds: Mission and Sunset Hideaway. Ask us about custom orders like a wall to wall unit with one or more Murphy beds.
Both styles appear like a regular cabinet or wardrobe. Luxury material and quality craftsmanship ensure each Murphy bed does not look out of place.
Mission
This style features classic Amish Mission design. This piece has simple, clean lines and an arched cutout base for subtle detail. Choose from a Murphy bed cabinet in queen, king, full, or twin size.
We recommend quarter sawn white oak for all our Mission style pieces. This cut of wood is essential to classic Mission style. It features a highly unique and beautiful grain pattern. Ray flecks appear through out the grain in a shiny, ribbon like pattern.
Since the Murphy bed only appears to be a cabinet, the drawers and doors are not functional. The larger sizes display three drawers above three doors. The twin Murphy bed cabinet has two doors and two drawers for a perfectly symmetrical look. This size Murphy bed does not feature an arched cutout base.
For this style, the Amish made mattress folds into three parts to fit in a compact space. The cabinet measures 39 inches high and 26 inches deep. The width varies depending on the size. The twin Murphy bed is slightly taller at 41 inches high with the same width and is 44.5 inches wide.
While we offer a handmade mattress with each cabinet bed, customers can also choose to use their own. Mattresses up to 10 inches thick will work fine. This is ideal if customers prefer a memory foam mattress or another specific type.
Sunset Hideaway
Another option is our Sunset Hideaway Murphy wall bed. This style is available as a full or queen Murphy bed cabinet. Instead of folding the mattress, this option pulls out from the wall and lies upright when not in use.
Because of this, the Sunset Hideaway style is only 18.75 inches deep, making any room appear more spacious. It measures 92 inches high and 95.5 or 101.5 inches wide depending on the size.
This style hides the bed behind two large, non functional doors. On either side is a small door, an open shelf, and two drawers for actual storage space.
The cabinet design features simple, wide paneling along the doors and drawers. The large, central doors display an intricate grid pattern for more detail. Edges are clean and straight for a simple, modern look.
When the mattress folds out, there are three solid wood panels for a headboard that also act as a bridge between the storage towers. This style looks more attractive than the Mission Murphy bed when actually in use.
