Our Small Wooden Desk Styles
Each small desk is solid wood with no veneers or laminates. This ensures durability for heirloom quality furniture that lasts. Customize your desk by choosing the style, size, wood species, stain color, and hardware details.
Each style detailed below is available with a file cabinet and drawers on one side, or simply with drawers right beneath the tabletop.
Browse our selection of rolling chairs to find the perfect match for your custom small desk. Order both in the same wood species and stain for a cohesive set for your bedroom or office.
Austin
This option is perfect for a traditional style small desk with drawers. It measures 48 inches long and 22 inches deep for a compact surface area. Details include a gorgeous waterfall edge and tapered legs.
The taper is slight for subtle detail underneath a three sided border with arched cutouts on the left and right. Of course, there is only one cutout border on the option with more storage drawers.
This desk looks excellent in rustic hickory wood with our Michael's Cherry stain and slender handles with a gold finish. For a classic Amish Mission look, select quarter sawn white oak wood and simple black handles or knobs.
Complete your traditional work space with a matching Austin chair. This rolling chair features the same simple, rustic design as its desk counterpart for a cohesive home office set.
Shaker
Another, more modern option for a small work desk is our Shaker style. It features simple, functional design reflecting classic Amish values. The edges of the surface are clean and neat for a contemporary look.
The legs begin to taper in classic Shaker style from just a few inches below the drawer space. The outward facing sides are straight while only the inward facing sides taper. The basic design of this piece makes it versatile and easy to match with existing furniture.
For a classic Amish Shaker look, choose a lighter stain like Blissful Sand on oak wood with round, wooden knobs. For a more formal, modern look, consider a maple wood base with a Dark Knight stain and white oak tabletop.
The Austin chair also pairs well with this desk style. Or, for a more modern look, the straight tops of the Kinglet and Curlew chairs go well with this contemporary take on Shaker style.
Ashton
The Ashton style features more ornate details than our other small desks. Elevate any space with this luxurious small wood writing desk. The beveled edge of the surface matches the beveled drawer fronts for a sophisticated look.
Each turned leg features intricate detail with contrast between defined square shapes and dramatic curves. Underneath this detail, the legs taper slightly from all sides until they reach the floor.
This style is slightly larger than the Austin measuring 48 inches long and 24 inches deep. This style is versatile and can suit different aesthetics depending on the wood species and stain combination.
For example, a deep, rich stain for the base with a cool, lighter tone for the surface gives the desk a formal, sophisticated look. A great combination for this style is a maple base in Brown Velvet with a white oak surface in Simply White stain.
For a more traditional, warm look, consider oak in our Fruitwood stain. This gives the wood a brighter honey tone and the distinct grain feels more natural.
To create a unique small white desk, select painted maple wood for the base and Simply White hickory wood for the surface. The irregular grain of hickory wood adds rustic detail to any piece.
The Kinglet chair style looks excellent next to the Ashton writing desk. It features gentle, elegant curves with a straight, pointed top. Both pieces show contrast between straight lines and rounded shapes.
Another attractive seating option for this small wooden desk is the MD51 upholstered chair. It features a low back and comfortable cushions for a long day of work. It looks excellent in our Paloma faux leather.
Brooklyn
Another excellent option for a luxury small computer desk is our Brooklyn style. This option features a graceful waterfall edge and flared legs that curve from the floor to the tabletop.
This style is available online with three drawers and a file cabinet. This option measures 60 inches long and 26 inches deep for a more spacious writing surface. Ask us about editing the design to feature one drawer, more leg space, and a more compact size.
The Brooklyn style is also available as an L shaped or executive desk. An excellent choice for this elegant style is walnut wood in our deep Cocoa Light stain. The varied color and swirling patterns compliment the graceful design.
For a two toned desk, consider a black maple base with a gorgeous flamed birch surface. This rare wood type features a unique grain pattern that naturally resembles flames. This option is perfect for a formal, professional workplace or home office.
The Kinglet chair pairs well with this high end design, especially with a leather seat for added luxury. Or, match this executive desk with a high back leather chair.
Customize Your Small Wood Desk with Drawers
Enjoy total control over every detail in your order with Upstate Amish. Since every desk is handmade by Amish expert woodworkers, they can tailor orders to exact preferences.
Larger retailers cannot offer this level of customization. Usually, only the most popular styles and colors of desks are available. Instead, choose from our selection of hardwoods, stain colors, and edit any other details.
Select Style, Species, and Stain
After choosing a style, decide what wood species and stain are best for your office or bedroom. All desk options are solid domestic hardwoods with no veneers or laminates. Available wood species include: maple, cherry, hickory, oak, birch, elm, and walnut.
Ask us about any other species we may have in stock temporarily. We sometimes procure slabs of burl wood, claro walnut from California, and other unusual wood types.
Please note that our desks and other office furniture are available as all one species and color or in a two toned option.
Next, choose a stain color for the selected wood species. Each type has multiple stains available that range from warm to cool and light to dark tones. Maple wood alone has fourteen unique options to choose from.
To see possible stain and species combinations for your new writing desk, navigate to our Information tab online. Then, select Indoor Wood and Color Options to see photos of each wood species and available stains.
Notice how the same stain color appears different on each wood species. This is because the stain enhances the natural color of the wood rather than totally changing it.
Choose Hardware Details
After choosing wood type and stain color, decide what hardware would best suit your new small desk. We offer knobs and handles in a wide variety of styles to match every aesthetic. Finishes are available in gold, silver, black, and bronze.
For a classic Shaker look, we recommend simple solid wood knobs for a natural look. For a modern feel, we recommend sleek, thin handles in minimalist style. Desks with ornate details like the Ashton look great with more detailed, bulkier handles.
Tailor Desk Dimensions
Finally, tell us about any adjustments to the desk dimensions you would like to make. We can lengthen or shorten the desk, add or remove drawers, and more.
Modify other details as well to match your ideal vision. Add or remove tapered legs, a beveled edge, paneled drawer fronts, and more.
Fully Custom Desk Units
Aside from customizing existing styles, we also offer fully custom desks as well. This could include a compact standing desk with adjustable height. Or, we can install wall to wall writing table and bookcase units in living rooms or home offices.
If you have a specific vision in mind for your small desk, send us details and we can create a design unique to you.
