At Upstate Amish Furniture Gallery, we offer a wide variety of different bed frame styles. Our skilled Amish artisans in Ohio carefully handcraft each item. Whichever style you choose will be heirloom quality and built to last.
Mission Bed Frame Styles
The classic mission style is a popular choice among customers shopping for Amish bedroom sets. It features a clean, simple design that often involves flat panels and parallel slats.
Its origin dates back to the late 19th century Arts and Crafts movement, which was a reaction against industrialization. This lead to the rise in popularity of handcrafted items, including furniture.
Traditionally crafted from quarter sawn white oak, these solid wooden beds display a unique, ray fleck grain pattern. This is because our associates cut the oak log into four quarters before sawing boards from a 90 degree angle. This process takes longer than plain sawing and is less resource efficient. For these reasons, quarter sawn white oak is more expensive than other options.
If you love any of our mission styles but would prefer a different type of wood, you can customize the items to your liking. We offer cherry, oak, maple, hickory, and walnut woods with various stains.
We offer three different mission bed frame types. First is the Craftsman, which features a storage bed and classic wooden slats. Like our other sets, it is complete with two nightstands, a chest of drawers, and a mirror.
Craftsman Bedroom Set

Next is the Modern Mission Bedroom. This platform bed also offers storage but lacks the wooden slats of the Craftsman. Instead, its simple panel design emphasizes the natural beauty of the wood pattern and color.
Our final mission style is the Weston Bedroom Set. Like the Modern Mission, it has storage and no slats but features an even simpler panel design. We also offer this style with a storage headboard, for maximum drawer capacity. The design is more of a modern style bed frame than classic.
Shaker Bed Frame Types
Our Shaker bed frames feature minimalist design and domestic hardwoods like maple, hickory, and cherry. This style originates from the Shaker religious group which formed in England in the 1700s. They valued simplicity, function, and durability - qualities that are evident in this style.
The Jackson bedroom set features a poster bed with wide, solid panels rising above the headboard and footboard. The canopy is optional. The simple design of the bed frame and the wide wood panels draw focus to the knots and curves of the rustic hickory. The lack of ornate design brings out the natural beauty of the wood pattern.
Jackson Bedroom Set

Another popular Shaker style is the Washington Bedroom Set. The headboard and footboard display solid maple wood with a more uniform wood grain pattern. The subtlety of the solid wood draws focus to the more complex design of the four short posters.
While we show these styles in maple and hickory on our website, you can choose any type of wood we offer.
Upholstered Bed Frames
Once a luxury available only to the wealthy of the 17th century, upholstered beds replaced canopy beds in popularity. The industrial revolution of the Victorian Era then made these beds more accessible and affordable to the middle class. Since then, upholstered beds have never fallen out of style. Now, they are a great way to add a luxurious yet comfortable touch to a bedroom.
Our Katelyn Upholstered Bed displays a sophisticated cream fabric that entirely covers the bed frame except for the legs. The headboard measures 56 inches high, giving the bed a couch like feel. This certainly makes for a comfortable bed to sit and read or watch TV.
We also offer the Hilton and Hudson upholstered beds. These beds offer the same luxurious cream fabric, but only in a rectangular shape covering the headboard. The rest of the beds show solid hardwood.
Hilton Bedroom Set

The main difference between the two bed styles is obvious in the footboard. The Hilton has a panel footboard with tapered feet and the Hudson has a simpler design with square feet. Both are available for purchase as a complete bed or just the headboard. We offer these styles in full, queen, and king sizes.
You can customize each of these upholstered beds to your liking. We offer all styles with a platform base (no storage), with siderail drawers, with siderail and footboard drawers, or with floor level siderail drawers. If you have another idea in mind, we can discuss it and create a design that works for you.
You can also request a specific platform height if you'd like. The siderail drawers allow clearance for nightstands while the footboard drawers span the length of the bed.
Sleigh Bed Frame Styles
The origin of the sleigh bed design dates back to ancient times, in the Greco-Roman era. It features a curved headboard and footboard that give the impression of a sleigh or a boat. These curves are "scrolled", like the ionic columns of classical Greek architecture.
The design gained popularity in the early 1800s in France and the United States. This was due to the emergence of the neoclassical Empire style movement started by Napoleon Bonaparte. He commissioned many sleigh beds for personal use, popularizing the empire style in France and abroad.
Historically, sleigh beds helped promote and spread the ideology and culture of Napoleon's French Empire. Now, they are a classy yet popular choice for a bedroom set. Add an element of luxury and sophistication to your sleeping space or guest room with any of these styles.
Our Heritage style is our most traditional sleigh bed. It features scrolled curves in the headboard and footboard along with intricate panel details. It also displays an ornate black rope design that stretches along the length of the bed at the top and bottom.
The Miranda Sleigh Bed is also a classy empire design that feels luxurious yet stable and strong. The maple asbury brown with burnished edges stain specifically pairs well with the sophisticated design.
Miranda Sleigh Bedroom Set

The Denali Avondale style offers storage space and a taller headboard. It has a simple design, but the brown velvet maple stain gives it an elegant, timeless feel.
Any of these designs are available for purchase for either the complete bed or only the sleigh headboard. You can also customize each style to add or reduce storage space.
Since the sleigh bed styles generally give a sense of luxury and grandeur, choosing the right bedding is important. Silk sheets and a comforter with an ornate, timeless pattern like damask or fleur-de-lis would look excellent with these styles.
Murphy Bed Frames
Murphy beds are quite different from the other options mentioned in this post. Instead of a standard frame with a headboard and footboard, murphy beds feature a foldable mattress that fits inside what looks like a cabinet.
These beds are perfect for small spaces. In fact, William Lawrence Murphy invented the style in the early 1900s because he needed more space. His studio apartment in San Francisco didn't allow much room to entertain guests. Now, Murphy beds are a popular choice for apartments with limited space and guest rooms.
We offer murphy beds in full, queen, and king sizes and in a variety of wood types and stains. All our styles are complete with a high quality Amish made mattress. Since the mattress can only be 10 inches thick, there is no box spring.
Our Mission Style Murphy Bed Cabinet is a popular choice for vacation houses and small spaces. It measures 39 inches high and 26 inches deep when folded, making it a compact, space saving bed frame. The width varies depending on if you choose king (83.5 inches), queen (67.5 inches), or full size (61.5 inches).
Our Sunset Hideaway Murphy Wall Bed with Bookcases is a larger option which features much storage space. This style is available in full and queen sizes and measures 95.5 or 101.5 inches wide, 92 inches high, and 18.75 inches deep. While a California king size isn't available, this bed is much wider than the Mission style. This is because of the added storage on either side.
Each style is available in a wide variety of woods and stains. With this many options, at least one is sure to perfectly fit your interior design plans.
